Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

As a reminder of our policy for determining start and end of Ramadan, the Islamic Centers listed below follow global moon sighting anywhere in the world that shares part of the night with the USA.

It is expected that In-Shaa-Allah, the holy month of Ramadan will start either on Wednesday, May 16th or Thursday, May 17, 2018. The final Ramadan announcement and confirmation will be made Tuesday after Isha, unless we receive confirmed sighting reports earlier on Tuesday.

Let us turn our attention on preparing for the arrival of this blessed month and to plan on getting maximum benefit from the days of fasting and nights of prayers. We look forward to seeing all of you at our centers for Taraweeh and Iftars.

Jazakum Allahu Khairun

Hijri Calendar Policy

The Eid Committee has agreed to the following common and unified policy for global moon sighting:

  1. Location of the actual sighting can be anywhere in the world that shares part of the night with the USA
  2. The sighting report must be from a trust worthy source such as a country’s official announcement, council of scholars, or a reputable Islamic Organization
  3. The moon conjuction (i.e. birth of the new moon) must have taken place at the location of the reported moon sighting

This policy has been reviewed by our local scholars and Imams. We ask Allah SWT to accept all our good deeds. We request your prayers and support in our endeavors.

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu

Allah describes the believers who deserve Jannah saying: “They (the believers) forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope; and they spend out of what We have bestowed on them.” [Soorah as-Sajdah (32): 16] “They (the pious) used to sleep but little at night.” [Soorah ath-Thariyat (51): 17] Also, numerous Ahadeeth add to this subject, narrated Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu): “The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “The best prayer after those prescribed is (the prayer performed) in the depth of night.” [Saheeh Muslim and Musnad Ahmad] .
