Who are we?
The Greater Austin Muslim Relief Committee (GAMRC) was formed in 2014 to coordinate the zakaah (charity) work in the Greater Austin Area, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, and Lake Travis area. It includes the following mosques as main members:
Nueces Mosque: 1977 & ICGA: The Islamic Center of Greater Austin: 1977
ICRR: The Islamic Center of Round Rock: 2002
ICBC: The Islamic Center of Brushy Creek: 2008
ICP: The Islamic center of Pflugerville: 2012
ICLT: The Islamic Center of Lake Travis: 2019
We are an integral part of the Austin community support system. What do we do?
The Greater Austin Muslim Relief Committee (GAMRC) provides a wide range of services to support the need in the Austin community heavily relying on your zakaah and Sadaqah. The following are some of the services:
How do we collect funds?
The Greater Austin Muslim Relief Committee (GAMRC) encourages the Muslims to pay their Zakaah and Sadaqah locally and regularly in the mosques that are listed above. We do not do any fundraising but heavily rely on the Muslim’s generosity of paying their duty to Allah SWT. The funds stay in each Masjid account and we request from different mosques to support the needy ones in our community. All funds are used locally and to help our Austin needy ones. The committee does not use any zakaah funds for operations, constructions, or any form other than helping people. If to use the zakaah funds to support needy ones education, the committee gets an approval from them first. No, we do not send any funds outside or provide funds to organizations collecting from outside the Austin Area.
How do we determine eligibility? (who receives our funds):
The Greater Austin Muslim Relief Committee (GAMRC) follows the Quran and Sunnah of the prophet (SAW) to help all those in need both Muslims and Non-Muslims. Muslims are covered under the obligatory charity (Zakaah) and non-Muslims are covered under voluntary charity (Sadaqah) which also could be spent on Muslims. The applicant needs to approach the mosques for help and our charity member in the mosque will hand him/her an application which he/she has to fill in and return to the mosque he applied at. The committee will then call the applicants and interview him/her to discuss his income and his needs. Once approved we will send the case to one of the participant mosques for approval.
